Actually, the words don’t really fit the Gilligan’s Island theme at all.

But knowing that Ted Cruz got a “Christian education” (read: Baptist) in Texas explains a lot.

Transposing lyrics onto a different song’s melody is some pretty ancient stuff.

Hell, our National Anthem came from sticking an obscure War of 1812 poem onto the music of an old English drinking song.

If Cruz really wanted to go hard-mode, he should have recited “Amazing Grace” to the theme music of “I Love Lucy”.

I wonder what Allen West will post on his Facebook page about this. He had a hissy fit earlier this week when Lady Gaga took “liberties” when singing the national anthem because she added lyrics that honor our gay citizens. My guess is that the hypocrite won’t say one word.

Incidentally, you can sing the lyrics to “O Little Town of Bethlehem” to the melody of “House of the Rising Sun” and it works almost perfectly.

Same with “Amazing Grace.” In fact I think a gosepl chorus of some sort did just that.
